Dr. Nurul Islam pioneered movement of Health Rights and Tobacco Control

 

Dr. Nurul Islam was a pioneer in assuring health rights of people and movement on tobacco products reduction. The youth should com forward to accomplish his dreams. The speakers said at commemoration meeting for recently demised National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam to at 10.30 AM in BILIA Center, Dhanmondi today. The function was addressed by National Professor Brigadier (Retd.) A Malik-National Heart Foundation, Dr. Jaforullah Chowdhury-Ganosastha, Environmentalist Abu Naser Khan-Save the Environment Movement (POBA), Dr. Rashid-E-Mahbub, Farida Akhter of Sastha Andolon, M Rafiqul Islam Milon-Manobik and policy analyst Syed Mahbubul Alam. The program was convened by Ibnul Syed Rana while BATA Coordinator Saifuddin Ahmed was in the chair.

 

National Professor Brigadier (Retd.) A Malik said Dr. Nurul Islam played pivotal role in formation of National Drugs Policy. His role is vast in expanding education in the country. He spread tobacco control movement across the country. He will be remembered in future for his contributions.

 

Dr. Jaforullah said, he believed people can live healthy by practice instead of medicine. Dr. Nurul Islam has many contributions in making a beautiful Bangladesh. He did a lot for the country but we could not give him due respect.

 

The speakers said Dr. Nurul Islam dreamt of public friendly health services and tobacco-free country. We should cherish his dreams and work accordingly. Amendment of tobacco control law and strengthening tobacco control in the country is meant to be due respect to him.

 

Many organizations of Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA) including Prottyasha Anti-Drugs Club, Nirapad Development Foundation (NDF), PROGGA, NATAB, SERAC Bangladesh, Green Mind TMSS, BIDS, ECLAB, AID, EC Bangladesh, TWC, SARDA, WBB Trust, POBA, BUKS-Rajshahi, WACC, Fatema Nari Unnayan Sangho, NARIPAKKHA, BCHRD, Arunodoyer Taarun Dal, Jalalabad Foundation and PSS attended the function.
