Take a look: Draft outcome document [Political Declaration G77] of the UNHLM on NCDs

As you may know, a number of UN Member States (and country groupings) are undertaking intense negotiations on the wording of the outcome document for the United Nations Summit this September. The G77 group of countries has been advocating for some strong (and somewhat positive) wording. Nice work G77. You can access the most recent release (July 8) of this document here: Updated_Outcomes_Document.pdf. It makes for an interesting, yet complicated read.

Of special concern is the near absence of references to financing and technical assistance from donor countries to address the NCD epidemic. If you are a citizen of a donor country (listed below) do what you can to let your government know that they must show leadership on this - the exclusion of NCDs from the global development agenda is not acceptable. The welfare of millions of the world's poorest are at stake. Donor countries are obligated under the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness to align their funding with country led development agendas. Removal of text relating to financing and technical assistance is inconsistent with these obligations. So please do write a letter, make a phone call, inform your local media, do what you can to let your politicians and New York embassies know.
